Stonehenge, Amesbury, United Kingdom
World Tour - Day 7 - October 17, 2006
The mist lifted as the New7Wonders airship inflated slightly below the elevation where the Stonehenge stone circle stands. The 50 robed druids, some of whom had come from far away, prepared to begin their ceremony. As the skies became brighter, the druids began chanting and started their Samrain (the predecessor of Hallowe'en) celebration, blessing the stones and the airship, and calling for peace in the four corners of the earth. With the slight drone of the airship circling overhead adding drama, the druids raised ancient swords and placed a cauldron of flowers in the circle.
The television crews and photographers ran between the huge stones to get the best angles, capturing the royal-blue airship against the grey and blue skies, as well as the white-robed druids with their flowing hair and bright clothes underneath their gowns. Peter Carson, Stonehenge Director from Engligh Heritage, accepted the official candidacy certificate from Bernard Weber as Rollo Maughfling, Archdruid of Stonehenge, looked on.
